A review of G-Map (USA), the turn-by-turn GPS app from XRoad for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. This is a good alternative to the more expensive apps currently on the market. It compares well to NAVIGON and TomTom, but at a fraction of the price. Furthermore, by purchasing smaller regions/maps G-Map can be even more affordable. An update is pending next month to add text-to-speech, traffic, and landscape view. I will follow-up this review with when it is released

Yeah, they’re similar. I just double checked, and noticed that NAVIGON put in POI in the street name search. Not sure if that was there before.
Great Review….Has there been any new information about the new update? If GMAP adds text-to-speech and landscape view(which I’ve never understood it don’t have) I really think it will be the best GPS app currently(Price+Features)
Yeah, I don’t think so. I haven’t really addressed directly comparing stand-alone units just to keep things from completely going off the rails. It’s hard enough between just apps. I think though in the $100 range+ accessories, stand-alone solutions really come into play. Thx
Does this navigation app require a data connection in order to use?
One of the nice things about the standalone GPS’s is that it’s fairly easy to import your own lists of POIs. Do you know if any of the gps apps you’ve reviewed include such functionality?
why is it going by itself
really nice
