So we have Weather and Climate… but are they the same thing? No, no they are not. But they are both super important to how the geosphere is shaped. In this episode of Crash Course Kids, Sabrina chats with us about the differences between Weather and Climate.

5-ESS2-1. Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact. [Clarification Statement: Examples could include the influence of the ocean on ecosystems, landform shape, and climate; the influence of the atmosphere on landforms and ecosystems through weather and climate; and the influence of mountain ranges on winds and clouds in the atmosphere. While I like most of the content, I don’t think the definition of climate is accurate. Climate is not just the weather over an extended period of time, and stating this builds on a misconception about what exactly climate is. Climate is determined by temperature and rainfall, Yuma’s desert climate is a measure of the low amount of rainfall and the warm temperatures. This is in contrast to tropical rainforest, which is also warm and sunny, but experiences more rain. There are several different climate zones and each one is defined by average rainfall and average temperature.
